Those of you who have visited and don't know me then let me introduce myself, my name is Jimmi Hill and as you might imagine I have a big interest in birds of prey (raptors). I have been interested in birds of prey since a youngster and been lucky enough to work with raptors in captivity and the wild. What I really enjoy is the conservation of birds of prey and raising awareness about birds of prey globally, you might have come across my other blog www.raptorawareness.blogspot.co.uk and if you have I hope you've enjoyed it.
The idea of this blog is that I wanted to not only raise awareness about bird of prey conservation but also raise funds for important conservation projects. Any type of conservation project cost's money and I appreciate I can't change the world of birds of prey but hopefully by running for raptors I can raise some awareness and much needed funds for bird of prey conservation projects.
Now you have probably got the gist for this blog, that I hope to raise funds by running. I hope to carry out at least one organised run throughout 2013, I have planned one a month starting with a cross country half marathon in January mixing in some 10k's, more half marathons/full marathons and some ultra marathons so it shouldn't be easy! I plan on ending the year with an epic run in Nov/Dec but we will have to see how this is planned out so watch this space. The Facebook page and Twitter feed will be updated the most regularly but in the next week I hope to publish a full calendar of runs for 2013!
Now I would say I have come to running later in my active life, I'm not old but at 27 it has only been this last year or two that I have got into running in fact if you met any of my mates I have played sport with they would laugh if you mentioned my name and running in the same sentence. I was usually at the back in fitness testing and hated running, living by the mantra that goalkeepers don't need to run. I have finished my hockey career and found running in the hills my new activity and I love it. I still wouldn't say I'm that fit but I do run a mean 10 minute mile, I do love going for long runs in the hills though so maybe that is why I stick to a slow pace.
I wouldn't even say I'm built for running long distances, I'm certainly not a lithe skinny set of lungs on legs like you see in the lead of the London marathon. I currently weigh in at 13.9 stone and at 5'10 tall my BMI says I'm overweight! I've ran some pretty good distances though my longest being 21 miles but still not passed that 26.2 mile stone. That will all change in 2013 and by some way! I'm also like most people who enjoy running I have to fit it in around life and work and eating as well as I can for example I have just been away for 10 days working til 2 am and having to eat out of a catering van at each venue, not great for someone trying to train and eat healthily.
This blog is so I can fill you in on how training is going, what I've learnt and the mistakes I've made as a novice. If anyone wants to join me on a run or is entered into one that I'm taking part in then please get in touch or if you have any tips or advice any help would be welcome. Finally lets not forget its for a fantastic cause bird of prey conservation. Thanks for visiting.
